Holistic Care

Education

A naturopathic doctor (ND) attends a four-year graduate level naturopathic medical school and is educated in all of the basic medical sciences but also studies holistic and nontoxic approaches to therapy with a strong emphasis on disease prevention and optimizing wellness. In addition to a standard medical curriculum, the ND is required to complete training in clinical nutrition, hydrotherapy, homeopathic medicine, botanical medicine, physical medicine, naturopathic philosophy, psychology and counseling (to encourage people to make lifestyle changes in support of their personal health), and Chinese medicine philosophy. An ND takes rigorous professional board exams so that they may be licensed or registered by a state or jurisdiction as a doctor. Additional information on naturopathic schools can be found at http://www.aanmc.org/.
